If you have, you might have heard about the 9-1-1 telephone service.

미국에 가본적이 있다면, 911에 대해서도 들어봤을거예요.

When there is an emergency, you can call the numbers 9-1-1 on your telephone or cell phone. 응급상황에서 집전화나 핸드폰으로 911에 전화를 하면 돼요.

This calls the city's emergency responders, like the police or the ambulance.

911은 긴급전화 서비스로, 경찰이나 앰뷸런스를 부를 수 있어요.

If you are at home and a thief comes to your house, you may call 9-1-1 to get the police to come to your house and help you. 집에 도둑이 들어왔을 때 911에 전화를 하면 경찰이 와서 도와줄거예요.

If you are feeling ill or have badly hurt yourself, you may call 9-1-1, and the operator will send the ambulance to your house. 많이 아프거나, 다쳤을 때 911에 전화를 하면 앰뷸런스를 부를 수 있어요. 

If there is a fire, you may call 9-1-1, and the operator will send the firefighters to you.

어딘가에 불이 났다면, 소방관들을 보내줄거예요.

If you are feeling lonely, you may not call 9-1-1.

외롭다고 911에 전화를 하면 안돼요.

This is a very important service, so we should not call them on silly issues.

911은 응급전화 서비스이기때문에, 별일 아닌 걸로 전화하면 안돼요.

You can be charged with a crime if you call 9-1-1 as a joke.

911에 전화하면 벌금내야 돼요.

Operator : 9-1-1. What is your emergency?

(911입니다. 무슨일인가요?)

Caller : Someone is in my house.

(누군가가 우리집안에 있어요)

Operator : What is your address?

(주소 불러주세요)

Caller : 123 Main Street.

(Main street, 123번지입니다)

Operator : All right, I am sending the police to your house. Are you alone?

(네, 경찰보내드릴게요. 집에 혼자있나요?)

Caller : Yes.

(네)

Operator : Where are you?

(어디에 계세요?)

Caller : In my room.

(방에요)

Operator : Where is the intruder?

(침입자는 지금 어디에 있나요?) 

Caller : I don't know. Somewhere in my house.

(모르겠어요. 우리집안 어딘가에 있어요)

Operator : OK, try to remain quiet and out of sight.

(네, 조용히 하고 숨어계세요)

Caller : OK. Please hurry.

(네. 빨리와주세요)

Operator : They will arrive in about 5 minutes. I will stay on the phone with you until the police arrive.

(약 5분후에 경찰이 도착할겁니다. 경찰이 올 때까지 전화안끊고 기다릴게요.)
